Rugby School boasts a wide range of excellent sporting facilities at our Sports Centre site and across the School campus which are immaculately maintained by our dedicated grounds team.
The jewel in our crown of sporting locations has to be the famous Close, where the game of rugby was born in 1823. The Close is situated in the heart of our campus and is used for rugby and cricket pitches. But it doesn’t stop there, as we have a multitude of facilities available for all sports.
What else do we have to offer?
We boast two multi sport halls with space for 6 badminton size courts in the main sports hall and the Collingwood Sports Hall is available to let on a whole basis. The halls can be divided into a variety of different combinations to suit an array of activities such as five-a-side football, netball, basketball and even Go-Karts.
We offer a 25 metre pool with an ascending depth of 1-2 metres and 6 lanes. The pool can be split into lanes to suit an array of activities such as aqua aerobics, canoe club and swimming lessons.
We have 3 squash courts which are available for member, non member and club use.
Our fitness centre is fully equipped with a variety of cardiovascular, resistance, free weight and functional equipment. Before using the fitness centre you will be inducted by our fully qualified fitness team who will be able to advise on how to use our equipment safely.
We offer 2 Rugby Fives courts which are available for exclusive use to our Old Rugbeians and Rugby School competitions.
We offer 2 floodlit astro pitches which can be set up and divided for a variety of activities and ideal for hockey, rugby and football. During the Summer we are able to host 30 courts in the summer.
We have a dedicated hockey 3G astro pitch
We have 3 competition tennis courts and 5 hard tennis courts which are floodlit. We also have 3 tennis courts which are not floodlit.
During the season we have three main cricket wickets on Caldecotts field and The Close. With regular hirings by the ECB and County Cricket clubs from across the UK, you can be assured we are able to offer first class standard pitches at Rugby School.
At the birthplace of the game, we offer numerous pitches for hire at our Springhill and Hillbrow pitches including the famous ‘Close’ where the game was born.

Extensive sports fields and facilities, including a new hockey pitch, a 25m swimming pool, a sports hall, newly surfaced netball / tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course and squash courts.
All of our facilities can be hired for one off games/ training sessions and or part of a combined larger event or residential stay.
